GOLDFIELDS CATHOLIC COMMUNITY
Liturgy & Sacraments
Jesus said, "For where two or three are gathered in my name, I am there among them."
(Matt 18:20)

Mass & Eucharistic Adoration
The celebration of the Eucharist (also called Holy Mass) is at the heart of our life as a parish community. It is the memorial of the new passover accomplished in Christ; the mystery of his life, death, and resurrection that has won us salvation.

A venerable practice of our Catholic tradition involves adoration of the Blessed Sacrament exposed upon the altar in a monstrance or another suitable way, as a means of deepening our faith in the Real Presence of Christ in the Blessed Sacrament and our hunger for sacramental communion.

For a list of the parish Mass and Adoration times, please visit our homepage.
Baptism
Baptism is the beginning of Christian initiation; the door to the life of faith and grace as well as our incorporation into the Body of Christ.

Older school-aged children take part in age-appropriate catechesis before being baptised. Please contact your Catholic School Priest or the Parish Office for more information.

If you are an adult seeking to be baptised and received into the Catholic Church, please visit the RCIA section of our website for more information.

Confirmation
Through Confirmation, the baptised are more perfectly bound to Christ and his Church, and are strengthened with a special outpouring of the Holy Spirit they received at baptism.

For children baptised in the Catholic tradition, Confirmation is generally celebrated at the diocesan age of Year 6, thus completing their journey of Christian initiation.

High school students or adults seeking to be celebrate the sacrament are requested to speak with one of the priests or ring the Parish Office.
Reconciliation
The Sacrament of Reconciliation or Confession in the Catholic tradition involves the confession and forgiveness of sins committed after baptism. It reconciles the penitent to God and the Church, restores us to a life of grace, confers spiritual peace and consolation, and an increase of spiritual strength for the Christian journey.

Scheduled celebrations of the sacrament are held in its first form of reconciling individual penitents on:
Wednesdays 5:30pm - 6:30pm during the Holy Hour and
Saturdays 10:30am - 11am
It is also available upon request (please contact any of our priests).

Communal celebrations of the sacrament, with individual confession and absolution, are held in the seasons of Advent and Lent.

Anointing of the Sick
The Anointing of the Sick is a sacrament in which a priest anoints a sick or elderly person with blessed oil, praying for their healing and spiritual strength. It may be celebrated for anyone facing serious illness, injury, the frailty of old age, or preparing for major surgery. The sacrament aims to provide, above all else, spiritual healing, peace, and a strengthening of the resolve to remain faithful to God's will in every circumstance of life. The sick are supported by the prayer of the Christian community and are encouraged to bear patiently with their own trials in the light of Christ's own death and resurrection.

The Anointing of the Sick is celebrated:
-
Every First Saturday, 9:30am, during Mass at St Mary's, Kalgoorlie.
-
Every First Monday, 9:30am, during Mass at the Southern Cross Care Chapel.
-
upon request in homes, aged cares, hospitals, and Church (please contact the parish office)

Funerals
Every Christian Funeral is a liturgical celebration of what God has done for us in Jesus Christ, who died for the forgiveness of our sins and has opened for us the way to eternal life. The Christian community gives thanks to God for the life of the deceased and prays that God will now welcome them into the light of his face. They also pray for all those who mourn, offering them the consolation of faith and the promise of resurrection.
Please speak with one of the priests in the parish or contact Goldfields Funeral Directors to arrange a funeral liturgy.
Christian Marriage
In Christian marriage, a man and a woman freely establish between themselves a partnership of the whole of life, which is by its nature ordered toward the good of the spouses and the procreation and education of offspring. A marriage between two baptised Christians is always a sacrament: a reflection of Christ's own faithful, self-giving love for his Church.

For a marriage to be celebrated in the Catholic tradition, at least one of the spouses must be Catholic. Those seeking a Catholic wedding should contact one of the parish priests at least six months in advance.

Veneration of the Saints
A novena (from Latin: novem, "nine") is an ancient tradition of devotional praying in Christianity, consisting of private or public prayers repeated for nine successive days or week.
A special devotion in honour of its titular patron, Our Lady of Perpetual Help, is celebrated during the Holy Hour on Wednesday evenings at St Mary's, Kalgoorlie.

Other novenas in the parish include the ones in preparation for the Feast Day of St Teresa of Calcutta, Christmas, and the Feast of Sto Nino.

The Rosary is prayed after weekday Masses at St Mary's.

Vocations
Ordained ministry in the Catholic tradition is conferred and exercised in three degrees: that of bishops, priests, and deacons. Ordained ministers exercise their service for the People of God by teaching, leading divine worship, and pastoral governance.

Religious life is a state of life chosen by individuals who dedicate themselves fully to following Jesus Christ through vows of poverty, chastity, and obedience, often living in community and serving the Church and the world through prayer and various ministries.
